Overview
The Tufts K12 Program offers to organize mock study sections for junior faculty who are submitting an individual K grant (or equivalent) or first R01 (or equivalent). Current or former K12 Scholars or JFF members who have support of their Department or Institution are eligible.
Timeline
We strongly encourage all applicants to plan six months in advance of a submission. We have found that most applicants require at least two months to refine the application following a mock study section. Minimum deadline dates are listed below but planning for a mock study well in advance is strongly encouraged. Access our Mock Study Section calculator for assistance in advance planning.
- Grant due at the NIH: Grant submission deadline
- PI will need to have docs all submitted to research admin: one week prior to Grant submission deadline
- Latest mock study section: five weeks prior to Grant submission deadline
- Latest date for submission of materials to reviewers: seven weeks prior to grant submission deadline (2 weeks prior to mock study section)
- Latest time to send in intake form: 11 weeks prior to grant submission deadline (four weeks prior to mock study section) Please note that mock study sections can take several weeks to identify reviewers so more time is appreciated to enable us to find the best review group for you.
- Suggested time to reach out to Lisa Ceglia, MD, to inform possible mock study section: three to four months in advance of the grant submission deadline.
Please reach out to the Mock Study Section coordinator, Lisa Ceglia, MD to discuss the optimal timing of the mock study section, or other questions.
Requirements
A detailed intake form should be submitted to TMC.Research.Career.Awards@tuftsmedicine.org by the deadline stated above.
To properly simulate mock review sessions for Career Development Award applicants we expect complete drafts of at least: (a) Biosketch in NIH format of the PI and primary mentor, (b) Specific aims (1 page), (c) Approach (6 pages), (d) References. We also request Training plans and career development goals but this can be in a more preliminary form. We suggest that this not to exceed more than six pages and include the following sections: Candidate Information, Career Goals and Objectives and Career Development/Training Activities)
To properly simulate mock review sessions for R01 applications we expect drafts of at least: (a) Biosketch in NIH format of the PI and key personnel, (b) Specific aims (1 page), (c) Approach (12 pages), d) references. Inclusion of additional documents that will be needed for the submission would be preferable.
Please see above deadlines for submission of documents.
We will request assistance from you and your mentors to identify appropriate external reviewers.
