Navigating Politically Sensitive Research in Medicine

Speakers: Eitan Hersh, PhD, and Keren Ladin, PhD

Location: Tufts University School of Medicine, 145 Harrison Avenue (Room 507)

The Center for Expanding Viewpoints in Higher Education (CEVIHE) at Tufts University invites you to an open house discussion on conducting research in politically sensitive areas of health care. The session will examine how scholars can navigate topics that intersect with contested public affairs and policy issues, meaningfully engage a broad range of stakeholders, and strengthen trust among communities that view scientific institutions with skepticism.

Drs. Eitan Hersh and Keren Ladin will offer brief introductory remarks. The discussion will primarily center challenges investigators face when pursuing lines of inquiry that carry heightened political or social scrutiny, the institutional support they find most valuable, and the additional resources that would enable them to maximize the impact and integrity of their work. Lunch will be served.

While you are welcome to drop in, we encourage you to register to guarantee a seat. Lunch will be available at 11:45AM, with the formal session beginning at 12:00PM. Participants are welcome to stay until 1:15 PM for networking and casual conversation. This discussion is designed for Tufts medical students, faculty, staff, and residents.
