Dr. Werner serves as Senior Advisor to the Small Grants to Advance Translational Science (S-GATS) program. She is the Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tufts University and the Louis E. Phaneuf Teaching & Research Professor of Gynecology at Tufts Medical Center. Dr. Werner is a national expert on diabetes in pregnancy, preeclampsia and cost-effective practices in obstetrics. She has had funding from the NICHD, the NIDDK, and the American Diabetes Association and currently is one of the leaders for the NIDDK-funded GO MOMs study which is seeking a better way to identify gestational diabetes. Dr. Werner has nearly 100 peer reviewed publications, and is the associate editor of several obstetric journals, and the Diabetes section editor for UpToDate. Dr. Werner has won numerous teaching awards including from the National Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology, been recognized by the March of Dimes for her research in prematurity, and was voted Distinguished Physician of Year for her service to the Rhode Island community during COVID. Finally, Dr. Werner is a lifelong advocate for reproductive rights and fair drug pricing. She has testified nationally and locally to improve access to health care and currently serves as the Chair of the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine’s Health Policy and Advocacy Committee.
