Dr. Sharon Phares is an accomplished health researcher with expertise in survey design, prescription drug benefit design and evaluation, health outcomes, employee health, wellness, productivity, developing epidemiologic and population-based models of healthcare costs and utilization, behavioral economics, research methods, predictive modeling, and program evaluation.

Prior to joining Tufts, she held a number of roles including Chief Scientific Officer of the National Pharmaceutical Council (NPC), Senior Vice President of Research and Education at the Pharmaceutical Benefit Management Institute, Vice President of Research & Advanced Analytics at Express Scripts, as well as senior positions in research and analytics at Laboratory Corporation of America and Walgreens.

Passionate about equity, patient access and creating sustainable healthcare systems, Dr. Phares’ current research focuses on improving the healthcare ecosystem’s ability to adapt quickly to biomedical innovation in ways that work for all stakeholders.

Dr. Phares has authored over 40 refereed publications as well as numerous book chapters, monographs, and white papers on a variety of healthcare and research method-related topics. She holds several patents and in 20212 was named as one the Top 100 Women in STEM. Dr. Phares holds appointments as assistant professor in the Department of Medicine Tufts University School of Medicine and Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

Dr. Phares received her MS and PhD in Sociology from North Carolina State University, and an MPH from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill.
