Overview

CAPriCORN is the Chicago Area Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Network, a Clinical Data Research Network (CDRN) funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).

CAPriCORN is an unprecedented partnership of research institutions, clinicians, patients and patient advocates within the Chicago metropolitan area. Its mission is to develop, test, and implement policies and programs that will improve health care quality, health outcomes, and health equity for an estimated 9.5 million residents, including groups that experience significant health disparities.

Funded by PCORI, the 13 CDRNs and 20 Patient Powered Research Networks function as an integrated research network called PCORnet. Each CDRN is a real-world practice involving ~9 million insured lives. CAPriCORN contributes data and expertise to strengthen the capacity of PCORnet to engage in sustainable, population-wide, and patient-centered outcomes research.

CAPriCORN and other CDRNs represent a real-world range of U.S. health care delivery settings and medical conditions. They provide an infrastructure to conduct retrospective and prospective research, but especially patient-centered outcomes research such as pragmatic randomized comparative effectiveness studies.
