I. GENERAL SUMMARY:
Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) Bioinformatics analyzes, develops and implements infrastructure tools to enhance clinical research functions and administrative processes across the Tufts CTSI 43 affiliated partners. We have created a comprehensive and proactive “Tufts CTSI Portal” that provides: 1) organizational, process, and informatics connections among the Tufts CTSI service Components, 2) resources for clinical and translational research (CTR) across Tufts and its affiliates; 3) mentored access and guidance with a web-based request, tracking, and feedback system, to identify needs and ensure delivery of services.
The Sr. Application Development Analyst will identify, generate, implement, and support functional tools. Specific responsibilities include: participates in assessing design options; generates code; generates reports; identifies and analyzes problems; tests and debugs code; troubleshoots applications; maintains installed systems; designs technical requirements for an application; produces and maintains documentation; performs feasibility assessments; conducts application quality assurance; participates in testing (e.g. user acceptance testing unit, system, regression, integration testing); integrates new applications/packages with installed base; vendor management (e.g. coordinates renewal of licenses, liaison for technical support fixes); collaborates in the design of file structures.
II. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform and participate in information systems planning, requirements definition, software evaluation and selection, hardware installation, hardware and software training, and on-going systems troubleshooting and user support.
- Assist Tufts CTSI users in the development and support of component (department) level tools.
- Develop and maintain software for internal and external interfaces.
- Interface and work with Tufts University, Tufts Medical Center and other Tufts CTSI organizations Information Technology groups to provide technical integration and coordination assistance when necessary.
- Work with 3rd Party vendors on operational issues.
- Oversee usage tracking tools design and monitoring.
- Design, develop, test, implement and maintain business applications in a variety of operating environments with varying levels of complexity.
- Analyze requirements for new applications to support programmatic initiatives.
- Work with user groups to define needs and provide solutions to fit changing business requirements.
- Provide technical support and problem analysis for issues arising in production application systems. Provide customer support as necessary when coordinating efforts such as testing and training.
- Effectively manage numerous projects simultaneously and deliver necessary project documentation.
- Provide accurate work estimates based on requirements to assist in project planning and work prioritization.
- May perform other job related duties as requested or required.
III. JOB REQUIREMENTS:
A. Job Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience with full life cycle of development; requirements definition, Design, Development, Testing, and Implementation.
- Strong communications skills and the ability to interact with senior executives.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with dynamic teams.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of business users as well as with technical personnel, preference for healthcare.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated examples of analysis, design, and development of a proposed solution.
- Demonstrated excellence in the development of applications using the Microsoft .NET platform.
- Strong experience in XML data files creation and manipulation.
- Experience with healthcare research data a plus. Experience within healthcare industry required.
- Experience with Microsoft SharePoint (Moss 2007)/SharePoint Designer strongly preferred.

IV. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports to the Tufts CTSI Administrative Director.
- Frequent contact with business users, bioinformatics technical leadership, and other IT representatives from Tufts CTSI organizations on existing environment and proposed recommendations.
- Interacts with 3rd party vendors as necessary to support development and operational needs.
