I. GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Design and Data Resource Center (DDRC) at the Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute (Tufts CTSI) is seeking an outstanding Research Associate with master’s level training in epidemiology. This position is part of the DDRC, a team of epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and research methodologists that provides assistance, guidance, and mentoring to clinical researchers in the development of meritorious and innovative grants, protocols and projects.
Working in conjunction with other staff, the Research Associate will participate in a wide variety of activities to support DDRC activities. This will include helping develop clinical research protocols, reviewing and summarizing published literature, assisting in the design of data collection instruments and data collection protocols, power and sample size estimation, data analysis, development of data and safety monitoring plans and preparing reports, publications and presentations. The ideal candidate would also be interested in teaching seminars in clinical research methods at Tufts-affiliated hospitals.
II. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist DDRC staff and collaborating investigators in the development of research proposals and manuscripts for a wide variety of research projects.
- Critically review research proposals for integrity of study design and analytical methods.
- Perform literature searches for manuscripts and grant applications.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to assist clinical investigators with data management oversight and data analyses.
III. JOB REQUIREMENTS:
A. Education:
- Masters Degree in Public Health or equivalent formal training in quantitative methods required for epidemiological research.
B. Experience:
- 2 years of experience in research environment.
- Proficiency in epidemiology and study design.
- Applicants should have strong oral and written communication skills, a high level of attention to detail, the ability to work independently with self-direction, and also enjoy collaboration in cohesive teams.
- Expert knowledge of medical literature searching and retrieval required. Expert knowledge of Internet-based searching.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications including word processing (Microsoft Word or Word Perfect), spreadsheets such as Excel, database systems such as Access, statistical analysis software (SAS, JMP, etc), and reference software such as Reference Manager.
- Experience with managing large, complex databases.
- Extreme attention to detail and precision.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
- An interest and aptitude in teaching is also highly desired.
